Reflections from Blake
Farrelly, Age 10:
The day began with a 1:30 warm up; and at 2:00, the swim meet started
with a lot of Sea’s the Limit swimmers participating.
The first event was the Under 10 Boys 4x50m Freestyle Relay that I was
swimming in. The order was Nicholas Gannon 1st, Luke Burke 2nd, Liam
Churchill 3rd, and Blake Farrelly 4th. We swam a time of 2.26 which
qualifies us for the State Swim at Homebush.
Then it was the butterfly, even some of the bigger kids like Chad had a
go.
We then swam freestyle; and we had a lot of fast swimmers that raced for
us.
Then there was the Medley Relays, and the Under 10 boys were in this
race. This time, Nicholas Gannon swam backstroke, Liam Churchill swam
breaststroke, Blake Farrelly swam butterfly, and Luke Burke swam
freestyle. Unfortunately, we did not qualify for State, but we swam
well.
The girls teamed up with Maroubra and also swam well. Then it was
breaststroke followed by backstroke.
Thanks to all the parents who did the time keeping and to Chad for
coaching.
It was a great turn up by Sea’s the Limit and a fun day for everyone.
All the swimmers swam really well.
Reflections from Coach
Chad:
Blake was one of 17
swimmers who represented our club at the Eastern Suburbs District Summer
Long Course Championships. With 15 swimmers achieving at least one
personal best swim, we can easily say it was a productive day at the
pool.
As Blake mentioned, the day started with the Boys 10 and Under 200m
Freestyle Relay qualifying for the New South Wales Age Championships in
the meet’s first event. With that kick start to the carnival, we
continued to have outstanding performances from everyone involved.
We had three podium finishes, with bronze medals going to Nicholas
Pavlakis in his ironman Butterfly performance, Nicholas Gannon with a PB
in the Breaststroke, and Georgia Roberts taking third (and very nearly
cracking the 1 minute barrier) in the 50 Backstroke.
Outstanding improvement was shown from Rebecca Milne-Muller, Lauchlan
McDonald, and Adam Doyle all with a PB in every event they swam.
Fantastic work you guys!
The regulars (more experienced carnival swimmers) put on a great show as
well. Great swims were shown from Harriet and Rosie Cronley (the sisters
who are always smiling), Vanessa Oleyar, Liam Churchill, and Luke Burke.
The middle of the order batsmen, the “almost if not teenage” boy crew of
Ryan Farrelly, Jacob Burke, and Cameron Kennedy put together a few great
performances. We have some great things to do this season guys,
are we ready?
As you get older, it becomes increasingly more difficult to attain
personal best swims. You just have to find other motivations for
racing. This is what happened to our only two swimmers who did not
achieve a best time on the day. However (especially from my
personal angle) the swims among Joshua Scott and Chad worked out to be
successful enough.
Joshua’s three swims (one outright first place in the Breaststroke) put
him 6th in his age group for points (top five earn cash). This in a
competition lasting three carnivals, where Joshua only competed in one.
Outstanding work Josh.
