Gerringong to Werri Beach Ocean Swim

The opening event of the year turned out to be an interesting one, as the conditions offered quite a challenge; and race logistics provided some too.
A strong north easterly swell gave just the hurdle that we all needed to gain some more race experience in rough conditions. Certainly not the same as training in the pool, the constant pitching and rolling proved more of a benefit to some than others.
The quote, “We have never started the race without someone on the start line”, also stood as a hurdle. With the start being situated one km away from the registration, it seemed too much to ask for a couple of our swimmers to make it on time to the start. Missing the start does take the pressure of racing away, and
it is amazing how much more enjoyable these events are when you take the time to see what’s underneath you the whole way.
Great swims from Mick Bransby with a medal placing in his 40 and over age group, and Joshua Scott who only missed a wave into the beach putting him two spots behind Mick.
Well done to all on a good journey swim in rough conditions.
